General information about probate in Canada — not legal advice.

Do I Need Probate?

Privacy policy

The short version

The probate checker runs entirely in your browser. The answers you enter are not sent to a server, not saved, and not linked to you. When you close or refresh the page, they are gone.

What we do not collect

We do not ask you to create an account. The checker does no server-side processing of your answers, and the answers you give it are never sent anywhere or stored. The one exception is if you choose to submit the optional law-firm referral form described below — and that form collects only the contact details you type into it, never your checker answers.

If you ask for a lawyer referral

On some results we offer an optional form to be put in touch with a law firm. This form is entirely voluntary. If you choose to complete and submit it, the contact details you enter — your name, email, phone number, and any message — are sent through a third-party form-handling service and shared with a law firm so that the firm can contact you about the probate process. We only ever receive these details if you submit the form yourself. Your answers to the probate checker are not included. If you do not want a law firm to contact you, simply do not submit the form.

Analytics

We may use a privacy-friendly analytics tool to understand, in aggregate, how many people visit and which pages are useful. Any such tool is chosen because it does not use cookies to track individuals and does not build a profile of you. It does not receive the answers you give the checker.

Advertising

This site may in future display advertising to keep it free. If it does, this policy will be updated to describe exactly what that involves before any advertising goes live.
